Find unique, high quality, handcrafted items made here in Lowell by our own artists, including stained glass, jewelry, sculpture, paintings, prints, ceramics, textiles, photography, cards, woodworking, and more. December 12, 8PM: Cirque Dreams Holidaze at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium
An international cast of over 30 multi-talented and brilliantly costumed artists come to life and perform astonishing feats of disbelief. Experience gingerbread men flipping mid air, toy soldiers marching on thin wires, snowmen daringly balancing, and reindeer soaring high above a landscape of holiday wonderment. 50 East Merrimack St.

December 13, 10:30AM-12:30PM: Hardanger Holiday Ornament Workshop at the American Textile History Museum (ATHM)
Discover how counted and drawn-thread techniques are used on even-weave cloth to create a beautiful holiday ornament. Perfect for a holiday gift! Advance registration required.  $40 non-menbers, $20 members.  491 Dutton St.

December 13 & 14, 12-5PM: Holiday Open Studios at Western Avenue Studios & Lofts
Shop from 100-125 artists across 5 floors and 2 buildings.  Paintings, jewelry, photography, sculpture, fiber arts, mixed media, glass, and more! 122 & 160 Western Ave.

December 13, 12-5PM: Seasonal Art & Craft Show reception at Zeitgeist Gallery

December 13, 2PM: Holiday Pops! with the Lowell Philharmonic at the St. Louis School
This concert will include selections from the 'Nutcracker Suite', A Charlie Brown Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!, and more! Free admission, $10 suggested donation per person. Hot chocolate and cookies for sale at intermission.  Venue is handicap accessible. 77 Boisvert St.

December 13, 6-8PM: Small Holiday Treasures opening reception at the ALL Gallery

December 14, 2:30PM: Holiday Pops 2014! at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium
Join the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and Conductor Keith Lockhart for their sparkling and beloved Holiday Pops Concert. Capturing the magic of the Christmas season and the winter charms of New England, the Boston Pops will perform their signature Sleigh Ride, as well as other Holiday classics and new arrangements of seasonal favorites. 50 East Merrimack St.

December 15, 6:45PM: Winter Wonderland Pajama Story Time at the Pollard Memorial Library
Wear your PJs to the library for a special evening story time! We will be reading stories and singing songs with Twickety, the friendly bedtime monster. For children ages 3-7. Registration required. Sign up at the Children's Desk or by calling 978-674-1529. 401 Merrimack St.

December 16, 6-8PM: Holiday Centerpiece Workshop at Cafe UTEC
On December 16, learn from floral artist Rufiya Blank of DeveZon Creation and Floral Design as you create a stunning custom centerpiece using fragrant real greens and other decorative elements. Take it home after the workshop, and show it off through the holidays! Workshop is $25 and materials fee is $15.  Advance registration is required.  41 Warren St.

December 16, 7:35PM: A Christmas Carol film screening at The Luna Theater
The glorious Alastair Sim brings his enormous presence to the big screen as Ebenezer Scrooge, the wicked old miser whose cold heart turns to mush after being visited by three noble spirits on Christmas eve. All attendees will receive a fabulous, traditional Christmas Cracker as our little gift! Sponsored by the Lowell Film Collaborative. 250 Jackson St, 4th floor.

December 18, 5-9PM: Handmade Holiday Shopping Night at Western Avenue Studios
Shop unique handmade gifts from over 30 artists, and enjoy our charity bake sale! A great chance to pick up some last-minute gifts. 122 Western Avenue, 2nd Floor of the A-Mill

Festivus 2 at the Ayer Lofts Gallery, thru December 28. The artists at Ayer Lofts display their unusual pieces for wearing gifting and enjoying. Come by for hot cocoa. Reception is Sunday, December 7 from noon-4 PM. Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday 12-4. 172 Middle St.

Fabulous Forgeries at the Brush Art Gallery & Studios, thru January 10. Get your favorite masterpieces at a fraction the cost. Our artist members will be choosing a masterpiece and "forging" a copy!  Opening reception is Saturday December 13 from 2-4PM.  Gallery hours are Tues-Sat 11am-4pm and Sun 12 noon - 4pm . 256 Market St.

Winter Lights 7 at The Loading Dock Gallery, thru December 28. Shop for gifts fo the holidays! Reception is Saturday December 6 from 5-7PM. Gallery hours are Wednesday -Saturday 12-5:30PM, and Sunday 12-4. 122 Western Avenue, 2nd floor of the A-Mill.
Humorous Quilts: Keeping Us in Stitches at the New England Quilt Museum, thru December 27. What makes you laugh? Is it a good joke, a play on words, an off-color innuendo, a riff on something well-known or slapstick? All of these are represented in the quilts gathered for this exhibit. Binney Family Curator, Pamela Weeks, had a great deal of fun putting them together for your enjoyment!  Admission is $8. Museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 AM - 4 PM. 18 Shattuck St.

Seasonal Art & Craft Show at Zeitgeist Gallery, thru January 4. Join talented artists and craftspeople for a gift show of hand made items $75 and under! in the main gallery. The show runs from Dec. 10- Jan. 4 in the main gallery. Reception with hot cider and refreshments on Sat. Dec. 13, 12-5 pm. Photography, painting, prints, jewelry, ceramics, and other enchanting objects. Gallery hours are Wednesday - Saturday 12-7PM, and Sunday 1-5PM. 167 Market St.
Father & Son at UnchARTed, thru December 14. An art event featuring the paintings of Bruce Wyatt Clements, and Stephen Clements. Opening reception December 5th, from 6-8. Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday 11AM-5PM. 66 Merrimack St.

Artist Textiles: Picasso to Warhol at the American Textile History Museum, thru March 29. Picasso to Warhol traces the history of 20th century art in textiles. Highlights include work by Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Sonia Delaunay, Raoul Dufy, Barbara Hepworth, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso, Ben Nicholson and Andy Warhol. Museum hours are Wednesday - Sunday, 10AM-5PM. 491 Dutton St.

Finally, our friends at the Merrimack Repertory Theater are offering 2 holiday-themed specials:

Holiday Basket Raffle
: Tickets for the Holiday Basket Raffle are on sale through December 21. This popular annual fundraiser for the theatre gives people the opportunity to win one of two vintage suitcases packed with $1,000 worth of goodies. Tickets are $5 or 5 for $20 and can be purchased at the theatre during every performance of 13 Things About Ed Carpolotti or by contacting Jeff Prescott at MRT ( or 978-654-7552).

Theater FlexPass - Special Holiday Pricing:
The special holiday FlexPass pricing is one of the best deals offered by Merrimack Repertory Theatre all year. The FlexPass is a package of four tickets that can be used at any time and in any combination for the remainder of the 2014-15 Season for just $150. (A 27% savings over regular FlexPass pricing!) The recipient simply calls the Box Office when they’re ready to select their date(s). Redeem for one ticket for each of the four remaining plays, use them all at once, or split them up into pairs over two different shows. (Good through May 19, 2015).
Now Featuring Lowell Photographers!

This month, will begin featuring the work of Lowell photographers.  We are fortunate to have a wealth of talented artists in Lowell, and we’ll be showing you some of their great work every few months.  If you like what you see, we hope you’ll visit the artists' websites and learn more about what they do.

Adrien Bisson is a Lowell based photographer.  Originally from New Hampshire, Adrien attended college at Berklee School of Music as a trumpet major.  He eventually followed a circuitous path to the life of a professional photographer with a studio at Western Avenue Studios . To learn more about Adrien and the fascinating people he photographs visit

Lowell Open Studios October 4-5



Join the artists of Lowell at Lowell Open Studios on October 4-5 from 11-5 each day.  Over 170 artists across 14 venues are participating in this yearly citywide celebration of art!  Free parking and shuttle bus service will be available.  Click on the image to visit the website for details on participating venues and artists, as well as special events associated with Artweek Boston!

Marketing Grants Available

The City of Lowell has issued guidelines for its marketing grant program.  The Community Marketing Grant Program will provide mini-grants of up to $5,000 for collaborative, grass-roots marketing projects for Lowell based organizations.  Grants will be competitively awarded based on the uniqueness of the applicant’s approach and the likelihood of reaching a broad audience. 

The deadline for submissions is 5pm, October 6th, 2014 and the awardees will be notified by the end of October, 2014  Grant funding must be used by June 30, 2015

Branch Street Fire Victims Relief Fund

Our entire city mourns the tragedy of the Branch Street fire, we hope you will support those impacted by this horrible event.
