Join the Cultural Organization of Lowell (COOL) Staff and Board of Directors for an annual overview and celebration of the City's robust cultural community with presentations from Board Chair, Professor John Wooding, and our Special Guest Speaker, Mr. John Beck, Deputy Director of ArtsBoston.

In line with this year's theme of "Growing the Audience for Arts & Culture," Mr. Beck will provide an overview and expand on ArtsBoston's Audience Initiative. This is Greater Boston’s first resource for actionable data about arts audiences that provides information the cultural sector needs to measure in order to support and promote participation in the region. Representing a sector-wide collaboration of over 55 organizations and containing over 1.4 million unique households of cultural participants, the ArtsBoston Audience Initiative helps participating organizations better understand current audiences, while also providing critical contextual insight across the local arts marketplace to help reach new audiences.

Professor Wooding will present his findings on his recent study of the Economic Impact of the Arts in Lowell.

Also on the agenda for the Breakfast will be the official unveiling of the "COOLest Person In Lowell" Award plus the annual update on the Cultural Organization of Lowell presented by Executive Director Susan Halter.

Tickets Now On Sale for Lowell's St. Patrick's Day Breakfast!
The City of Lowell's Annual St. Patrick's Day Breakfast takes place Monday, March 17 at 7AM at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center (50 Warren Street). Tickets are $350 per table or $35 per person.

Each year, all proceeds from the breakfast are donated to a local non-profit or charitable organization. Lasts year's generous support of sponsors and attendees helped generate over $9,000 in donations for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell.

In honor of Carol Duncan's 22 years as executive director, the Committee has chosen Girls Inc. of Greater Lowell as the recipient of this year's proceeds. Girls Inc. provides a safe home away from home where girls ages 5-18 can grow and flourish in a caring environment.  They offer a variety of activities and programs which give the girls exposure to experiences they would not otherwise have.

The St. Patrick's Day Breakfast Committee hopes to ensure both the continuation of a great local tradition, and the advancement of one of Lowell’s finest youth enrichment programs.

For questions on the event, please contact Chris Samaras at 978-674-1481 or email

City Announces Movie and Design Contests

Continuing a campaign to engage local talent as part of the City's on-going marketing efforts, two new design contests were announced today.

The City has issued a Call for Work for local filmmakers and videographers to create a 15 second movie promoting Lowell.  This is the second year of the contest. Last year's winning movie created by the team of Pete Pedulla and Adrien Bisson aired in AMC cinemas over the summer and is still viewable on the City's YouTube channel.

The second contest is a call to designers to create a City of Lowell t-shirt that incorporates the City's tagline: Lowell. Alive. Unique. Inspiring.  Last year's winning design, created by Chase Compton was used on the City of Lowell bags.

You can read the full press release on both contests and download the guidelines for the movie contest and the t-shirt contest.  Submission deadlines are November 29th for the t-shirt contest and December 6 for the movie contest.
