Continuing a campaign to engage local talent as part of the City's on-going marketing efforts, two new design contests were announced today.
The City has issued a Call for Work for local filmmakers and videographers to create a 15 second movie promoting Lowell. This is the second year of the contest. Last year's winning movie created by the team of Pete Pedulla and Adrien Bisson aired in AMC cinemas over the summer and is still viewable on the City's YouTube channel.
The second contest is a call to designers to create a City of Lowell t-shirt that incorporates the City's tagline: Lowell. Alive. Unique. Inspiring. Last year's winning design, created by Chase Compton was used on the City of Lowell bags.
You can read the full press release on both contests and download the guidelines for the movie contest and the t-shirt contest. Submission deadlines are November 29th for the t-shirt contest and December 6 for the movie contest.

The 27th Annual Lowell Folk Festival
Friday, July 26 - Sunday, July 28, 2013
throughout Downtown Lowell
For 26 years, the Lowell Folk Festival has presented the very finest traditional artists from across the country! With SEVEN live music stages spread throughout downtown Lowell, visitors will be treated to remarkable traditional music more often heard in homes, social clubs, dance halls, and annual celebrations. The Festival's ethnic craft demonstrations along Lucy Larcom Park and the local artisans market -- Art in the Courtyard -- showcases some of the finest craftspeople from around the world, and from right here in the New England area.
In addition to great traditional music and art, the Lowell Folk Festival is also about FOOD. The tempting aromas of Greek, Polish, Asian, Spanish, and so many other foods, promise a culinary and cultural experience! Non-profit ethnic organizations, mostly local, come together to prepare and sell the foods of their heritage with proceeds of their sales benefitting numerous worthy projects and programs. As you enjoy these delicious foods, know you are supporting "green" concerns (the Folk Festival uses paper plates and bio-degradable utensils only) and good causes.
The sights, sounds, and smells of the 2013 Lowell Folk Festival await!

Over the last year the City of Lowell has been turning to the local artist and student community to help promote all of the City's wonderful and diverse amenities. The result was a campaign of ads, films, and marketing materials that have made it into malls, bus tails, movie theaters, and people’s shopping carts, all designed by established and emerging Lowell artists. While this is the first time the City has created a marketing campaign with local talent, it won't be the last! Please take a look at the wonderful work below.
