From historic mill buildings to picturesque river views, the City of Lowell offers a diverse, cost-effective option for filmmakers.  Centered around a historic Downtown, complete with scenic canals and cobblestone streets, Lowell delivers an authentic, urban environment ideal for present day or period pieces.  Outside of Downtown, Lowell is also home to many district neighborhoods featuring historic homes, public parks and commercial districts.

After-hours cast and crew can take advantage of Lowell’s international cuisine and vibrant cultural scene.  Downtown is home to numerous art galleries, museums and world-class venues showcasing local talent and national acts. Located at the intersections of Routes 495, 93 and 3, and only a short ride to Boston, Lowell’s versatility and convenience are unparalleled in the region.

The state of Massachusetts also offers highly competitive tax incentives for film production and digital media companies. Key provisions include: a 25% credit on all spending in state, no sales tax on production spending, no caps and no limits, and only a $50K budget requirement. The credit applies to digital media production as well. 70% of the production must be shot in MA. Lowell Films
The City has served as the backdrop for several independent and feature films.  Filmed in Lowell in the Summer of 2009, The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, tells the life story of Lowell boxer 'Irish' Micky Ward.  The film was recently released to rave reviews and received 6 Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor (Mark Wahlberg).  View the trailer below!
